6 Artful Road Trips for Foodies & Creatives on Cape Cod & Beyond

If you’re anything like me, a good road trip means two things: beautiful art and something good to eat. Whether I’m chasing bold brushstrokes, indie galleries, or the comforting warmth of a plate that tastes like home, these destinations always hit the sweet spot.
Here are 6 of my favorite road trips that feed the soul and the palate — all within a day’s drive from Cape Cod.
1. Provincetown, MA
For: Coastal charm, art galleries, seafood + people-watching
P-town is a dream for anyone who lives colorfully. From the Provincetown Art Association & Museum to the rows of bold, eclectic galleries tucked into Commercial Street, creativity spills out of every corner. Grab a burger from Mean Ptown Burgers from The Canteen or fresh oysters by the beach, and don’t leave without a long, golden-hour stroll past the dunes.

2. Boston, MA
For: Museum days, foodie nights, and concert energy
Boston is always a good idea — especially when art and appetite are involved. Spend hours at the Museum of Fine Arts or the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum (yes, the one with the legendary art heist). Catch a summer concert or pop-up market, then end the day with dinner in the South End or at a rooftop bar downtown.
Must-visit: The Van Gogh immersive exhibit (on until September — I’m making plans!)

3. Hyannis, MA
For: Hidden gems, murals, markets, and music
Hyannis is a growing canvas of culture. From local galleries and public murals to weekend craft fairs and the waterfront vibe, it’s giving small-town magic with big creativity. Pop by one of the many art spaces or catch a local artist at one of the many cultural events, then enjoy food from spots like Island Cafe & Grill, or my next foodie event.
4. Newport, RI
For: Ocean views, historic elegance, and seafood feasts
Newport is what happens when art, architecture, and indulgence collide. Spend your day exploring Gilded Age mansions or sailing the coastline, then tour the galleries downtown before sitting down to a bowl of clam chowder or a luxurious seafood tower. The vibes? Rich auntie on retreat.

5. Martha’s Vineyard or Nantucket (Weekend Edition)
For: Island inspiration, curated bites, and stylish strolls
Perfect for a weekend getaway, both islands offer a mix of quaint charm and elevated culture. Martha’s Vineyard is known for its art walks and soulful cuisine, while Nantucket gives you coastal galleries, fine dining, and magazine-worthy moments on every corner.

For: Young creatives, murals, and innovative eats
This underrated gem has a booming art scene thanks to RISD and a food culture that's quietly flexing. Stop by the RISD Museum, explore Water Fire if you time it right, and try globally inspired dishes from local chefs who are truly doing the most.
Art and food are two of the purest ways to explore a place — and yourself. Whether you’re gallery hopping, dancing at a summer concert, or sharing a dish made with love, these trips offer inspiration in every sense.
